Periodontal Disease

I just wanted to take a moment of your time to talk to you about healthy gums versus unhealthy gums. Healthy gums are healthy, you'll see nice pink gums, no bleeding . Some of the common signs of unhealthy gums can be bleeding, redness around the gum, bad breath no matter how much you brush. Sometimes unhealthy gums can cause pain, but that's not very common, which is one of is one of the reasons why most people don't even know that they have gums in a state of disease.

Technically, the scientific word or the medical terminology for gum disease is going to be periodontal disease, you might have heard of it. If you've had a deep cleaning by dentists, then you've probably have had gum disease in the past or you currently have active gum disease if you haven't been back for your maintenance cleanings. Why is this topic so important? Well, it's important because most people who come into the dental office haven't been to the dentist in years. And they come in for tooth pain specifically, because you know, they probably don't like the dentist or they can't afford it, for whatever reason, usually what brings them in this tooth pain. And when you start looking, you start finding that that's not the only problem. That's one of the problems that we want to address. But when you start digging into what's going on, most people who haven't been to the dentist in a very long time do have active gum disease. And if left unchecked, gum disease leads eventually to bone loss around the teeth, and tooth loss. So if you're wanting to avoid dentures in your future, it's always important to go have your yearly checkups at the dentist. I know we recommend twice a year. That's what I recommend. But man, if you can get in at least once a year you can avoid so much heartache and trouble down the line especially when you get older. Hopefully it's not a choice between what kind of denture you're going to choose. We don't want you to be in dentures. Dentures aren't a solution to bad teeth. Really, they're just for smiling in my opinion.

So with that being said, I encourage you to go find a dentist. It doesn't have to be me. I know I'm all the way out here and Lorena, if you're local to Lorena, we definitely would love to see you! I think we are a pretty friendly office and I think most people do enjoy having or enjoy the convenience of having a dentist local to them and not having to drive to Waco or any of the surrounding towns. We would love to see you but if you can't come here due to insurance or whatever, get somewhere and gets seen. Because you may be in a state of gum disease and you don't even know it. This is Dr. Chaparro Cross Creek dental. They appreciate your time. If you sat through this entire lecture, whatever you want to call it. You guys have a great day. Bye
